FAQ

Is CBD legal?

Yes, CBD is legal in all 50 States. In 2018, Congress passed the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (“Farm Bill”). In 2019 it was signed into law legalizing the hemp plant. A legal hemp plant must contain less than .03% of THC. The Farm Bill effectively removed hemp as a controlled substance and regulations now belong under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) instead of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Do Brave Horse CBD/CBG Treats have THC in them?

No, Brave Horse Treats contain zero (0) THC. Our Products are made with CBD and CBG Isolate which provides all of the benefits without any THC. We use organic ingredients and our Hemp plants are grown in the United States. Each product has batch-tracing information available.

Do you third party test your product?

Even though we source our cannabinoids from highly reputable growers and processors we still want to take the extra step to FULL PANEL test every new batch of product. Our partners at Smithers Lab in Chicago give us that added piece of mind that the products we give our horses are clean and clear of pesticides, heavy metals, and microbials.

What do you test for?

We test for potency, heavy metals, pesticides, microbials and residual solvents.

What is a COA?

A COA is a Certificate of Analysis. You should never buy or take any CBD/CBG that does not provide a COA. Furthermore, you should only trust CBD/CBG products that third party test their products. The way to know if a product is third party tested is the lab report. A reputable CBD company must have a QR code on EVERY product it sells. When scanning the code look for TWO different lab reports. If there is only one lab report the product has not been tested by a third party lab.

How much CBD/CBG do the treats have in them?

We offer two different doses for the same price 75mg, or 100mg.

Is it okay to give my horse sugar?

Absolutely! Two sugar cubes a day will not have any deleterious effect on a horse and they love them! Please note: Horses can be insulin resistant and we have the perfect products for those horses. We recommend the OatBites or CBD/CBG Oil for horses that can not have sugar.

Why can’t I just put the CBD in my horse’s feed?

You can but the Method of Ingestion Matters https://www.bravehorsecbd.com/methods-of-ingestion/

The most direct route to your horse’s bloodstream is absorbing the CBD/CBG into soft tissue of your horse’s mouth, adding to feed means it gets consumed into the digestive tract. Once a CBD/CBG product goes through the digestive system some of the CBD/CBG breaks down before it enters the bloodstream through the liver.

We recommend our CBD/CBG oil for horses that are already processing pain medications through the liver. The oil placed inside the mouth will enter the bloodstream directly and not enter an already overtaxed liver, giving the horse the awesome healing benefits they need.

What are the differences between the Kelso’s Cubes, OatBites, and Oil?

They have 1 carbohydrate per treat, The three products were developed based on The Method of Ingestion.

    • The Brave Horse CBD/CBG Oil is by far the most effective method to get the cannabinoids into the bloodstream. When placed in the soft tissues of the mouth (ideally under the tongue) the CBD/CBD is absorbed by the tiny capillaries, the CBD/CBG diffuses into them and enters the bloodstream. This route is ideal for providing a direct route with very little dilution of the product.
    • The Brave Horse Kelso’s Cube is the 2nd best delivery mechanism for introducing CBD/CBG to your horse’s bloodstream. When hand feed and 5 – 10 minutes prior to feeding hay or grain horse will crunch on the sugar cubes and as the saliva melts the sugar the CBD/CBG oil on the sugar cube will stay in the mouth and the soft tissues will absorb the CBD/CBG and it will enter the bloodstream. This product was developed for ease of use as some horses will not tolerate repeated oral administrations with a syringe.
    • The Brave Horse OatBites are perfect for insulin resistant horses and picky eaters. Our OatBites were created for horses that can not have sugar .They have 1 carbohydrate per treat, and are packed with CBD/CBG. Introducing them in a treat form allows our customers to know for certain that the horse is getting the supplement. Too many times we have bought expensive pellets just to see them on the floor. We recommend that customers use the 100mg product as some of the CBD/CBG is lost in the digestive system as it travels to the liver to be processed before it enters the bloodstream. We also recommend giving it 1 hour before the desired effect is achieved as it will take a little longer to enter the bloodstream.

When is the best time to give my horse CBD?

The best time to give CBD is 5 – 10 minutes before you hay or grain your horse. This will allow for absorption into their system before digestion begins. In a perfect world you would place drops of CBD oil under their tongue. Our Kelso’s Cube product is the next best thing!

Can too much CBD/CBG hurt my horse?

Research shows that CBD is not addictive or harmful in larger doses. We do not recommend that you give your horse more than 400mg a day. If your horse is taking a lot of pain medications the method of ingestion matters. Please give us a call or visit the Science page on our website and read the article Methods of Ingestion

Do I need to feed treats on a schedule, or just as needed?

Both: Competition horses and stressful situations call for as needed. Horses with chronic pain, inflammation, and poor overall health need maintenance doses of twice a day.

We have provided a few scenarios to help you with deciding whether or not your horse needs our product twice a day every day or situationally.

“Mary and her horse Blaze compete in the barrel racing world. Blaze is a healthy 7yr old Quarter Horse gelding. Blaze is well adjusted on the farm and exhibits very little stress. When Mary and Blaze travel to a show, Blaze turns into a nervous wreck. He paces in his show stall, does not eat well and Mary can tell that he is not getting a good night sleep in the new environment. When entering the arena Blaze loses his mind entering the gate. Sometimes he rears up and Mary has to walk to the gate backwards and spin him around at just the right time.”

Dosing recommendations for Blaze:                                                                 Blaze needs to start taking Brave Horse CBD two days before leaving the farm. The recommended dose would be 100mg, one in the morning and one in the evening. Blaze would continue taking two a day during the competition as a maintenance dose to keep him calm in his stall. 45 minutes before Mary competes Blaze needs to take an additional one or two treats. We always recommend starting with one treat and increasing the dose if needed. Our products will not slow or dull a competition horse, on the contrary, in some cases like Blaze he will get faster as he is calm enough to hear the rider’s cues as he rounds the barrel. and changes lead for the next barrel. Blaze will also be well rested and have the energy he needs.

Josh is a Cowboy Mounted Shooter and his shooting horse is Whisper. Whisper is a 17yr Quarter Horse mare. Whisper and Josh have been a successful team for ten years. Josh has noticed that Whisper is slowing down a bit and is starting to turn the barrel with some difficulty. Some days are better than others and he has also noticed that she tends to leave some grain in her bin at night.”

Dosing Recommendations for Whisper: Whisper needs a maintenance dose of Brave Horse CBD. Whisper is demonstrating that she has pain and inflammation possibly from arthritis beginning to set in as she ages. She is also showing signs of poor health and needs support with her appetite and gut health. Whisper needs to start with 100mg twice a day. We generally see results with movement and appetite within a month of taking Brave Horse CBD. Our products will not slow or dull a competition horse, on the contrary, in some cases like Whisper she will get faster as she moves without underlying pain.

“Sue has a mini named Pickles. Pickles is a happy pony with lots of friends on the farm. Pickles is petrified of the Farrier and strikes out when he tries to pick Pickles hoof up. Sue also has noticed that Pickles gets very worried and stressed out when the Vet comes as well.

Dosing Recommendations for Pickles: Pickles needs Brave Horse CBD only for stressful situations. We recommend starting with 100mg dose 45 minutes before the Farrier or Vet arrive. You can increase the dose by adding additional treats or more oil until you achieve the desired result.

Brave Horse treats have 75mg and 100mg of CBD/CBG in each treat. Weight is ONLY one of the determining factors when deciding on the ideal dose. Brave Horse experts are available by phone if you need additional dosing advice. 312-296-7900

    When should I see results?

For horses using the product for stressful situations we recommend giving a dose 45 minutes before you would like it to take effect. The recommended dose for situational use is 100mg to 300mg.

For horses using the product for gut health, pain, or inflammation we recommend giving two doses a day in the am/pm for 20 – 30 days before you will see results. The recommended dose is 75mg – 100mg per dose twice a day.
